A UseCase from a system that encloses the system under consideration
The term Business Use Case in the RUP terminology refers to a UseCase from the Business. This is an enclosing, typically semi-automated system that will have its own cycle of requirements, analysis, design and implementation. Requirements for a given system under consideration arise from design and implementation of an enclosing system.
Note that Constantine and Lockwood use the term BusinessUseCase to denote an abstract UseCase that has all technological considerations eliminated from it, yet their term applies to the same system under consideration.
The use of the term as used in RUP (Rational Unified Process) is not advised; in general one should always relate a UseCase to a specific system under consideration. The distinction as to whether this is a Business or a Computerized System leads one to concentrate on the differences in process and situation rather than the similarities.
